Welcome to Y5/6 Leopard Class!
Your class teachers are Miss Murch (Monday- Wednesday), Mr Finburg (Thursday- Friday) and Miss Dreka.
We are delighted to welcome everyone to Leopard Class and the start of an exciting new school year! Year 5 and 6 are important years in primary school, filled with opportunities to learn, grow, challenge ourselves and discover just how much we are capable of achieving.
This year, we will be encouraging our Leopards to become increasingly independent, confident and active learners. We want children to understand that learning doesn't simply happen to us – we need to take part! Great learners are focused and engaged: they listen carefully, ask questions, share ideas, make connections, learn from mistakes, respond to feedback and keep going when something feels challenging.
There is plenty to look forward to across the curriculum. Children will develop their skills and knowledge in English and maths, investigate and question through science, explore people, places and events through history and geography, and express their ideas creatively across the wider curriculum. We will encourage children to be curious, think deeply and take pride in producing work that demonstrates their very best.
Our HERO values – Honest, Engaged, Respectful and Open-minded – will be at the heart of Leopard Class. We will work together to create a classroom where everyone feels safe, valued and able to learn. Being a successful Leopard means not only taking responsibility for our own learning, but also recognising our responsibility to allow and encourage others to learn and succeed.
Our school vision, “Let your light shine” (Matthew 5:16), will guide us throughout the year. Every Leopard has different strengths, talents, interests and aspirations. We want children to recognise that every light is different, every light matters, every light deserves an opportunity to shine and every light can make a difference.
As the oldest pupils at St Mark’s, our Year 5 and 6 children also have an important opportunity to be positive role models and leaders within our school. We will encourage them to use their growing confidence, independence and talents to help others and make a positive difference to our school and wider community.
We are looking forward to a year filled with hard work, curiosity, challenge, laughter, new experiences and plenty of opportunities to shine.
🐆 Here's to a fantastic year in Leopard Class – be curious, be brave, be a Learning HERO and let your light shine! ⭐
